April 30th

One of many disused little factories in Łódź. You just have to go into courtyards and peek around corners, and here's a chimney, there's a chimney...

This one belonged to a certain Wilhelm Lürkens, and was built between 1891 and 1909. It used a huge steam engine to produce knitted fabrics.

I stayed outside because I was alone, and it's not safe to go into abandoned buildings alone no matter how tough you are (I'm not very tough.)

This part of the old Poznanski factory has been turned into a hotel. A very expensive hotel...which is right across the street from a very poor and tumbledown neighbourhood. In contrast with the cleaned brick of the old factory the apartments on the other side of the road look even more desolate.

There used to be a huge set in here, greenscreen, motion control, the works. Now it's all cleaned out. A sign that the production is finally ending...

I went to work early, hoping to catch the morning fog, and there was so little of it it wasn't even worth the bother. So I took a walk behind the factories...

Bad photo, but the only one I had from that day. Work is wearing me out!

These are bells on the old factory building where I work, I don't think they're used at all anymore.

This is where I work. No, I didn't get a job on the production line- this building used to be a textile mill, but now only a fraction of that enterprise is left. Now the space is rented out to a bunch of different companies- among them a stocking factory, a gravestone workshop, a gym, and the film studio I work at.

April 26th

An old factory warehouse burned down today. I don't think it was being used. It made a gigantic pillar of smoke...

...but the firemen quickly took care of it, which is good because the closest building is a kindergarten. I took the first picture from the church yard next door to the factory. Everybody wanted to see, young and old alike, even though the smoke billowed far and made your eyes water.

As far as I can tell these buildings used to belong to the nearby Niciarka thread factory.

I wish I could say more but I can't find much information about it online. I meant to go Northwest that day, but I went Southeast instead and ended up exploring this area. There are many like it in Lodz, which was a city built around factories.
